Van bound...
-
Last Saturday, we were planning to attend a wedding in Indiana, about 3 hours from home. We had travelled 2+ hours when Dad called and told us that there were freezing conditions and the roads were likely to get very bad.
-
As we turned to head home, we realized that the roads were already quite slick and most people were driving with caution.
-
We got caught in a loooong line of cars, somewhere along 65, the road being extremely icy. We crawled/sat completely still (in turn) for almost 4 hours.
-
After a couple of hours we were tired and slightly bored. Come on, surely we could come up with a creative solution to our boredom. We talked about door to door witnessing to the other parked cars, but didn't figure that would be the best idea, under the conditions. We then considered Christmas caroling. No, no... maybe everyone wasn't as jolly as we were, at the moment.
-
At one point, we saw how many Proverbs we could get through (reading at a normal pace) before we moved. We read 12 chapters, the gear shift in park the whole time. As we inched along (literally) we did a variety of activities... lifted weights, tried to see how many different states we could spot on licence plates, talked, read (Jack even read the dictionary for awhile!).
-
But what would EVERY good blogger do in a situation like this??? Take pictures, of course! We had the camera along, planning to take pictures at the wedding. I shall spare you in not making you view all of the idiotic things we took pictures of, but here are a few shots from the afternoon...

I see you posted about it after all! I'm sorry that you were so bored and I really wish you could've made it to the wedding. I guess God planned otherwise.

The pictures are pretty funny!

Funny now...yes

Funny then...NO!

It all turned out okay in the end though, Praise the Lord!

At least we were not killed an an accident! Ten people died that evening in weather related accidents! We were also thankful that our car did not breakdown like some other folk's did.

As we sat there, we began to realize that we should not be so discouraged about not making it to the wedding, but to be thankful for the Lord's protection with a young driver like myself! :o)

All in all, a good experience for character building if nothing else!

Glad you guys made it out safe. We drove for about an hour (and covered the distance we normally cover in 30 minutes) and ended up having to turn around and come home.

The weather that we faced wasn't quite as bad as what you guys plowed through from the way it looks.

Wow that's something...there's a story similar to that in Steve Castleberry's book, "Our Homestead Story" (don't know if you're familiar with him but he writes a number of great books) and, like you say, it's not funny while it's happening but later you look back and think it's hilarious.

I guess it just goes to show you that you should keep a good stock of things in the van to do. That's impressive you had weights in there!!

So sorry you couldn't make it! It took us FOREVER to get to the reception, we actually considered going home! At least you had things to do! :)
